His Royal Highness visits Brown University,
Dec. 12, 2007
African King to Lecture at an Ivy League University
His Royal Highness, Fon Angwafor III, delivered a lecture
on the nexus of traditional and modern rule in Cameroon at
Brown University on December 12, 2007. Never before in history
has a Cameroonian ruler, modern or traditional, been invited
to give a lecture at one of America 's most prestigious institution
of higher learning. Africans and friends of Africa were invited
to come and be part of history in the making. Because of its
rich culture, its unique location and its diverse geography,
Cameroon is often referred to as Africa in miniature. A lecture
by a monarch from Cameroon should therefore provide insights
to the thoughts and practices of other African monarchies.
The lecture was scheduled for 12:00 Noon at Brown University
's Watson Institute globally positioned at
111 Thayer Street, Providence , RI. The lecture was free and
open to the public.
His Royal Highness visits JFK Presidential
Library, Dec. 20th, 2007
HRH Fon Angwafo 111 of Mankon visited John F. Kennedy Presidential
Library & Museum at Columbia Point - Boston MA on Thursday
Dec 20th at 11:00 AM. A tour of the Library and Museum will
let the King visit the recreated world of the Kennedy presidency
for a “first hand” experience of John F. Kennedy‘s
life, legacy & leadership.
The visit started with an introductory film,
narrated by John F. Kennedy, in which he discusses his early
life and political career, culminating with the 1960 nomination
for the presidency. The Fon gained knowledge of the career
of John F. Kennedy, the challenges he faced, the decisions
he made, and his commitment to public life as he speaks for
himself on film, video, and sound recordings.
His Royal Highness walked through exhibits which are reminiscent
of the period, following John F. Kennedy on the campaign trail,
through the events of his inauguration and into the
White House. Permanent, past and temporal exhibits on
the Kennedy presidency focus on such trademarks as the Cuban
Missiles Crisis, the Peace Corps, his visit to his ancestral
homeland - Ireland and the Space Program. Exhibits on
Attorney General Robert Kennedy and the president’s
Oval Office deal primarily with the growing Civil Rights movement
of the early 1960’s. A series of displays underscore
first lady Jacqueline Kennedy ‘s role in the historic
restoration of the White House.
It is hoped that the King’s visit at the John F.Kennedy
Museum and Library will take from it a deeper admiration of
the American system of government and a greater awareness
of the benefits and responsibilities of living in a free society.
